          Joy 10SC Shuttle Car
The Joy 10SC Shuttle car operated at the world famous Vesta #4 coal mine.
This mine originally started in Coal Center, Pa. in 1904 and eventually extended
18 miles to the west.  This piece of equipment was based out of the newer
section near Richeyville, Pa. The shuttle car has a capacity to transport 12 tons
of coal per load from the face to the rail haulage loading point.

Ed Baker formed the Tremont Mining Company in the late 60's after
purchasing the remaining reserves in the Daisytown area and
started a family operated mine in the former J & L Steel Vesta #4 Mine
in Hill #1, #2 & #3 . There were large blocks of coal left surrounding the
rail haulage tunnels. Tremont Mining retreat mined the reserves. Brandon Baker,
the son of Ed Baker, worked the mine full time with his father. The reserves were
eventually mined out and the equipment removed from the mine in the
mid 1980's.

The equipment remained on the surface for the past three decades. In 2013 the American Industrial Mining Co team had a vision to develop and construct a coal mining education experience which had never been seen by the public before.  This experience simulates underground coal mining by taking equipment that would normally operate underground and bringing it above ground so the public can safely visualize an active mining operation.  Brandon wanted to see his family's mining equipment come back to life for this vision. This is the only mining exhibit in the WORLD  in which the public, miners and their families and future miners can witness underground mining operating above ground. This exhibit will encourage future generations of miners as well as provide an opportunity for experienced miners to share with their families what their job entails.  The feedback from the public has been extremely supportive and positive for this unique experience.

We encourage everyone to witness this coal operation first hand. The show dates for May and August each year can be found in our mining events links. SPECIAL THANKS TO BRANDON BAKER AND HIS FAMILY for supporting this vision.
